WEYMOUTH Town Council has launched its new £50,000 grant scheme for businesses and groups across the area.

It comes after the council approved its 16th grant to local groups - taking the amount of funding approved to almost £30,000.

The town council has grants available for community, voluntary or charitable organisations to support their work in the community, with the groups using the cash to fund either new projects, buying necessary equipment, events, or training.

The latest grant was awarded to Greenhill Bowling Club to help with refurbishment works.

Councillor David Gray, council's chair for finance, said: "Huge congratulations to Greenhill Bowling Club.

"We hope the extra funding helps provide top class facilities for the players and visitors to the area."

"We're proud to have now allocated sixteen grants in the past year to local groups, totalling over £26,000.

"I hope more groups apply to the grant pot of £50,000 that launches in April.

"It could be a lifeline for local groups looking to start up again after the pandemic - when it’s safe for them to do so."

Groups can access up to £2,000 for a project.
