FIREFIGHTERS have been called to an allotment blaze.

A crew from Portland Fire Station was called to a fire in an allotment at 8.04pm yesterday evening.

The fire, on Green Lane in Weymouth, was found to be intentional burning.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Whilst on standby in Weymouth, Portland were mobilised to a fire in the open near Green Lane. Found to be intentional burning to clear stubble."

A spokesman for Portland Fire Station said: "We were tasked to a fire in the open in the Weymouth area, this turned out to be a well controlled burn so no action was taken. We gave the occupants advice and made sure it was safe before returning to Weymouth fire station for our original standby duties.

"We returned to Portland fire station at 21.10."
