LANDLORDS at two pubs are ready to fling open their doors to the public after their venues have seen huge investment.

Weymouth's Nothe Tavern and the Sydney Arms in Dorchester have seen investment from pub operator Marston's, which has provided cash injections towards outdoor garden spaces as well as the installation of up-to-date systems.

As part of the operator’s ongoing Covid-19 secure measures, Marston’s has invested in their pubs up and down the country to accommodate the easing of restrictions from April 12.

Sydney Arms landlord Mark Bliss said: "The beer garden has been completely transformed.

"We've had outdoor lighting and new flood lights installed, and we've now got a new outdoor heating system set up.

"All the windows at the front of the pub have been replaced with new ones, which wasn't cheap because it's a Grade II-listed building.

"All together, we've seen an investment up to £70,000 from Marston's.

"We were set to receive new outdoor benches for the front, but funnily enough they've not arrived yet because they were stuck on a ship in the Suez Canal."

Mr Bliss said starting Monday every person entering the dog-friendly pub will have to provide their details.

In Weymouth, the Nothe Tavern's landlord Kenny Poole has even had time to build a new outdoor bar.

He said: "I don't know the exact figure invested by Marston's, but we've had new garden lighting put up, new tills and a CCTV system installed, the inside has been refreshed, and we've had new pumps installed for our indoor and new outdoor bars.

"The new outdoor bar has been named 'Harbar', which was chosen by our competition winner Linsy Ross.

"We cannot wait to reopen and see everyone. We're a family-run pub and we pride ourselves on providing outstanding food.

"I'm looking to hire a new head chef to take our menu to the next level."

Ralph Findlay, CEO of Marston’s, said: "We can’t wait to reopen, it has been a difficult year for everyone and we're delighted that we will be able to reopen some of our pub gardens.

"We have created new outdoor spaces with a number of new external dining areas to welcome back friends and families."
