A GOLF club in Weymouth has achieved a new status to honour its commitment to safety.

Weymouth Golf Club, in Links Road, has achieved a new Safe Golf accreditation.

The new status has been awarded to the club to recognise its commitment to promoting a safe and positive environment for all course users.

The club has also been acknowledged for its work helping charities within the area.

Club spokesman, Paul Whittle, said: "Coincidental with Weymouth Golf Club becoming Safe Golf accredited the club's professionals instigated a Holiday Golf Academy, which hosted its first attendees on last Saturday.

"The youngsters enjoyed a day learning basic golf skills as well as games and an Easter egg hunt."

The accreditation is given by England Golf. Other courses within the Dorset Council area which have the accreditation include Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club, Wolfedale Golf Course in Dorchester, Isle of Purbeck Golf Club, in Swanage, and Wareham Golf Club.
