POLICE were called to tackle several incidents where large groups of people were causing trouble including along Weymouth harbourside.

Officers said they attended 'multiple reports of anti-social behaviour' across Weymouth and Portland.

A spokesman for Weymouth and Portland Police said: "Officers from the Weymouth Neighbourhood Policing Team have attended multiple reports of anti-social behaviour across Weymouth and Portland this afternoon.

"Police have advised and dispersed larger groups of people when it has been required.

"The team are working closely with partner agencies to address community concerns particularly around Weymouth Quayside, with different options being explored.

"Officers have been in the area and spoken to groups in the evening with no problems to report."

It comes after residents around the harbour complained about drunken brawls, littering, urinating in the street and crowds, claiming it makes them feel 'trapped in their homes.'

Crowds of drinkers gathering at Custom House Quay - and the mess left behind - were captured on film by residents, who are demanding action from authorities to deal with the situation.

Over the Easter weekend 'hundreds' were gathered on the harbourside - and, as previously reported, four men were arrested following a street brawl on Easter Sunday that left two victims needing hospital treatment for injuries.

Residents are calling for street drinking laws to be enforced and for covid marshals to patrol after 9pm.

The police spokesman added: "Patrols will continue daily. Please report any issues to us by phoning 101 or use the ‘Do It Online’ option on our website.

"If a crime is in progress or a life is in danger, call 999."
