A man has attended for a voluntary police interview following an image appeal in relation to a reported public disorder incident on Weymouth Harbour.

At around 7.45pm on Sunday 4 April 2021 Dorset Police received a report of a fight involving a group of people taking place in the area of Custom House Quay.

Officers attended and a group of four men aged in their 20s reported they had been assaulted by a larger group.

The victims were all Brazilian nationals living locally and it was reported that they were subjected to abusive comments in relation to their nationality. Two of the men sustained injuries that were not believed to be serious and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Following enquiries, an 18-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of racially or religiously aggravated wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm. A further three men – a 22-year-old from Bournemouth and two men aged 20 and 23 from the Dorchester area – were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray. All four have been released under investigation.

Following an image appeal and further enquiries, a 21-year-old Weymouth man has attended for a voluntary interview and is assisting officers with the investigation.
