ROADWORKS on a key route connecting Weymouth to Portland are set to be finished 'by end of the week'.

Nighttime road users have been delayed on the A354, Portland Beach Road since last Thursday (April 8) after road marking works started.

The work, which starts in the late evening to avoid peak travel times, is being carried out by contractor WJ South West on behalf of Dorset Council between Hamm Roundabout and Osprey Quay Roundabout.

A spokeswoman from Dorset Council said: "Our contractor WJ are carrying out night works to refresh the high friction surfacing (coloured material) on the approaches to Hamm Roundabout and Osprey Quay Roundabout."

It is expected the work will be finished by end of today (April 15) before work crews move to the next section of road by the Wide Street Roundabout on Portland.

"They’re hoping to finish the works tonight, the other dates were booked in the case of bad weather delaying them.

The workmen will then move on to Wide Street Roundabout on Portland and get that finished by the end of the week."

A spokeswoman from WJ South West said any comment regarding the works would come from Dorset Council.

There is a three-way temporary light system set up on approach to the roundabouts where work is taking place.
