Photos show the extent of damage caused by a crash after a lorry struck a building in Weymouth town centre.

Police officers were called at 11.19am on Tuesday, April 20 to a report of a TK Maxx lorry striking a building in St Thomas Street.

The TK Maxx lorry hit Bridge House - which contains the Edge Café - as it attempted to drive along the road.

The road closed was closed by police as the lorry was removed and allowed Dorset Council workers to assess the damage.

Photos at the scene show the lorry damaged a chunk of the building, and Dorset Council workers carefully removed loose debris from the building.

The debris was carried and loaded onto a van. Dust and other debris outside the building were swept up and cleaned. 

Dorset Council confirmed that its Building Control workers arrived to give building safety advice regarding the ‘dangerous structure incident’.

No one was injured in the crash. 

The road was reopened after 12.20pm and traffic began to return to normal. 

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 11.19am with a report of a road traffic collision in St Thomas Street in Weymouth involving a lorry that had collided with a building.

"Officers have attended and road closures have been put in place. There are no reports of any injuries.

TK Maxx has been approached for a comment.
