POLICE are issuing a warning to Honda owners as catalytic converter thefts are on the rise in Dorset.

The warning comes after two people were seen trying to steal a catalytic converter in Sturminster Newton at night on Monday (April 19), police have said.

The two people were disturbed during the theft and left in a small car towards Hinton St Mary.

Officers are telling car owners, in particular of Honda Jazz and Honda CR-V models, to be vigilant after the attempted theft.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "Be aware we're currently experiencing a series of catalytic converter thefts across Dorset.

"Thieves are cutting the catalytic converters off parked cars generally during the hours of darkness.

"In particular Honda cars Jazz and CR-V models are being targeted. Please consider where you park your car. Ideally in a well lit open and visible area, garage if possible.

"Consider marking your catalytic converter to make it identifiable.

"Theft prevention devices are available to purchase.

"Be vigilant to people loitering around and working under cars on the street. Report suspicious activity.

"Please report these crimes so we can fully understand the extent and pattern of offences and target our activity accordingly."
