A BLAZE has broken out in a forest, as firefighters warn the public to 'enjoy the countryside responsibly'.

Firefighters were called to a fire in Puddletown Forest after receiving a report from a member of the public yesterday morning.

Pumps from Dorchester and Wareham fire stations, along with a 4x4 from Bere Regis, were called out at 11.23am.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "A member of the public called as they were in Puddletown Forest and could see a small fire in the woodland and heath.

"Our crews were able to gain access to the forest with the 4x4. An area roughly 20m by 30m was involved. Crews damped down the area using aqua packs and multiple beaters were used.

"They got the fire under control within the hour. The stop came in at 12.41pm.

"Please enjoy our countryside, but enjoy it responsibly."
