A MAN who sent ‘threatening messages’ to another person has been given a restraining order and ordered to carry out community work.

Billy Lee Victor Purcell, aged 27, of Green Lawn Way, Axminster, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates Court on Friday, April 23.

Purcell pleaded guilty to sending messages to another person via Facebook Messenger which conveyed a threat for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient. The offence happened in the Lyme Regis area on December 20, 2020, the court heard.

Magistrates gave Purcell a restraining order for 12 months, in which he must not contact the victim or enter the area where the victim lives.

Purcell was issued a community order with a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and to carry out 90 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must pay £150 compensation.
