A FIRE has broken out at workshops near Dorchester - as drivers were warned of 'significant' traffic delays in the area.

Firefighters from Dorchester and Weymouth have been in attendance at the incident in Charminster, after being called to the scene just after midday.

A spokesman for DWFRS said at the time: "Crews from Dorchester and Weymouth are currently dealing with a workshop fire in Charminster - please avoid the area whilst we are working and expect a significant traffic delay in the area."

Breathing appratus wearers extinguished the fire using hose reels and main lines.

The fire also spread to overhead power cables causing additional hazards.

In an update a spokesman confirmed that the fire was extinguished earlier  today, with a crew heading back to reinspect and close the job at around 7pm.
