A WEATHER warning for strong winds has been issued for Dorset and parts of the south west today.
Winds reaching 60mph are set to batter areas such as Weymouth, Portland and Wey Bay this evening.
The Met Office has imposed a yellow weather warning from around midday until around 9am tomorrow morning.
Spells of heavy rain are also expected threaten to dampen spirits on the national holiday, the Met Office said.
Forecasters have warned 'disruptive' strong winds are expected, and that gusts are 'likely to widely reach 40 to 50 mph inland', and as 'high as 60-65 mph around some coasts of southern England'.
The strong winds will by accompanied by some heavy rain at times and should gradually ease through Tuesday morning, the Met Office said.
What to expect
- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
- Damage to outdoor temporary structures possible, with some tree branches down too
- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
