THE driver of a Range Rover who was using his mobile phone while behind the wheel pleaded with police not give him any more points because he had 'too many'.

Officers from the No Excuse team were patrolling Wareham and stopped three cars within Wareham's town centre.

According to police, the drivers stopped included the Range Rover driver caught using his mobile phone while behind the wheel, and a BMW driver allegedly under the influence of drugs.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "[We were] in Wareham following reports of mobile phone use and vehicles parked on the zig zags in the high street.

"It didn’t take long to spot an offence - the [driver in the tipper van] was chatting away on his mobile while going round Wareham roundabout. [He was] not from the area. He said it was a bit of a shock to be caught. The driver received six points and a £200 fine.

"A few minutes later on the same roundabout the driver of the Range Rover was chatting away on his phone.

"When stopped his words were 'you got me, please don’t give me any more points. I’ve got too many'.

"The driver already had six points. He said he was off to court for another offence shortly. The driver received six points and a £200 fine and [is] now likely to be disqualified.

"While in the area of Gravel Hill we came across the BMW. We had received reports the driver was under the influence of drugs.

"When stopped the driver admitted smoking cannabis an hour before we stopped him.

"A drug-wipe was conducted which came back positive for cannabis, he was arrested and bloods taken that have been sent off to be analysed."
