A REVISED application has been submitted scaling back plans to expand a popular Weymouth holiday park.

Waterside Holiday Group originally submitted plans for 56 ‘high end’ residences at Weymouth’s Bowleaze Cove. This has since been scaled down to 31 units following a number of objections which were made by concerned residents about the expansion to the existing park.

The company says the homes would blend in with the environment, while saying the development would deliver vital jobs and boost Dorset’s economy.

Allen Main, group general manager at Waterside Holiday Group said: "We have now submitted a revised application after taking on board comments from consultees regarding the impact of our proposed expansion on the environment and traffic volumes. Although our original application received no objections from authorities including Highways, we appreciate that there were still a few common matters of concern put forwards by key stakeholders.

"Therefore, we have carefully re-looked at our application and come up with some alternative options to ensure our plans work as favourably as possible for all involved.

"The new revised application involves the reduction in the number of holiday homes and round houses which we originally proposed, from 56 to 31 units.

"Our intention was always to create a low-density format, with each unit generously spaced out for an open feel – and this reduction in units will enhance this offering even further. We are also proposing to increase the size of our ecological area, helping encourage more wildlife to the site."

Concerns raised by residents about the original expansion included fears it would be ‘detrimental’ to the area and would negatively impact traffic, parking, wildlife and pollution levels.
