A MAN is set to appear in court charged with assault by beating a woman.

Police said Simon Turner, aged 52, of Blandford allegedly assaulted a woman in her 30s around 3.30pm on February 3 in Bournemouth Road, near Tesco.

According to police the woman was turning out of the car park at the store in Blandford when the defendant had to slam his brakes.

Police said the defendant chased after the woman in his car. Both drivers left their cars and the defendant allegedly assaulted the woman to the face - causing a cut to her lip.

A spokesman from Dorset Police said: "A man has been charged and is due to appear in court in connection with an alleged assault in Blandford.

"Dorset Police received a report that between 3.25pm and 3.35pm on Wednesday, February 3 a woman aged in her 30s was turning out of the car park at Tesco on Bournemouth Road when a male driver of another car coming down the road slammed on his brakes and beeped his horn.

"It was reported the woman carried on driving and the driver of the other car followed behind flashing his headlights and gesticulating for the woman to pull over.

"They both got out of their cars in Vale Park off Bournemouth Road and the man allegedly pushed the victim into her car and pushed her face.

"The woman sustained a cut to her lip that did not require hospital treatment.

"Following enquiries, a 52-year-old Blandford man was arrested and he has now been charged with an offence of assault by beating."

Turner is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on May 17.
