A WOMAN who uses a walking frame has raised more than £700 in a week by walking a mile a day for a charity close to her heart.

Teresa Drage, from Weymouth, is supporting the RNLI's Mayday Mile campaign which calls on members of the public to cover at least one mile in May in any way that they choose and raise vital funds to help keep people safe on the coastline.

Teresa, who is partially disabled and uses a walker to help her get around, is walking a mile on every single day in May in a bid to bring in donations and raise awareness of the charity and the lifesaving work of its crews. Teresa, who plans to cover 31 miles in total, will be joined on her daily walks by RNLI volunteers and her aunt Heather.

Seven days in to her challenge, Terersa has managed to raise more than £700 - with one supporter handing over a £100 donation in memory of her late husband who was a supporter of the RNLI.

On her daily walks around the town, Teresa has been carrying a RNLI yellow wellington boot and a homemade poster along with her RNLI emblazoned walking frame, so passers-by can spot her and donate to her cause.

Teresa, 52, has lived in Weymouth for her entire life and has strong connections to the coast and the local fishing community.

She is the head of fundraising at the Weymouth RNLI branch and she hopes that by leading by example she will inspire others to support the RNLI's Mayday Mile campaign.

The RNLI has answered Mayday calls for almost 200 years. It is the most urgent plea used by mariners when life is in immediate danger. This May, the RNLI are the ones sending out a mayday call as it looks forward to 2021 and beyond after a difficult 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.
