AN AVID Star Wars fan said the filming of a new TV series at a Dorset quarry would "immortalise" the area for local people.

Preparations continued on set of the new Star Wars TV series at Winspit Quarry, near Worth Matravers, on Monday.

The series of the iconic franchise is believed to be airing on Disney+ and on the afternoon of Monday, May 10, multiple mini-buses were taking staff and props to and from the set, while security guards were dotted around guiding people away from the quarry, which looks out on the sea.

Nothing could be seen to give away any secrets to what was being filmed.

A truck was pulling the lighting fixtures around and it was hinted that filming was starting “soon”.

And fans were heading to the quarry to try and get a sneak peak at filming while the crew were in the area.

Holly Drinkwater, a Bournemouth resident, said: “I’m a huge Star Wars fan, I saw the article from the Echo pop up on Facebook and I immediately turned to my boyfriend and said we need to go down there right now.

“We also said if we didn’t see anything, Purbeck is so beautiful, we have our dog with us, it would be a nice walk.

“I would love to see the set itself, anything to do with Star Wars is quite extravagant. I’m secretly wishing I’ll see Diego Luna or Ewan McGregor.

“It’s awesome, it’s wicked. I love where I live, I love the Jurassic Coast. I’ve always thought it would make a great filming location.

“It’s an added perk that it’s Star Wars but even if they had just been filming here, I would have had a nosey.

“[The Quarry] is very dramatic, it’s kind of like a ‘locals only’ thing and to have it immortalised in TV would be quite cool to say it’s up the road from us.”

As reported, the Echo understands that the filming is for a new Star Wars TV series, likely to be Andor, which will serve as a prequel to 2016’s Rogue One and focus on the early formation of the Rebellion.

The Disney+ series has already started filming in England, with lead actor Diego Luna and stormtroopers spotted filming on a beach in Cleveleys, Lancashire.

Filming is expected to take place over the next couple of weeks.
