THE refusal to allow a house in Weymouth to be divided has been upheld by a planning inspector.
Dorset Council had turned down the proposed changes from one property into two at No. 15 Park Lane in July 2020.
Had it been allowed the existing four-bed house would have been converted to a three-bed property and a one-bed flat or maisonette.
The application said the three parking spaces would remain unchanged and there would be only minor alterations to the outside of the property.
Upholding the Dorset Council original decision the planning inspector concluded that the limited size and awkward shape of the outdoor space would not be sufficient for any future residents from two homes.
Said the inspector’s report: “Any attempt at sitting out would be impractical and unpleasant given the cramped and oppressive enclosed character of the space.. Accordingly, given the plot size, the proposal would have an unacceptably harmful effect on the character and appearance of the area.”
