CAMPAIGNERS from Extinction Rebellion are staging a demonstration tomorrow in protest over what they claim is Dorset Council's lack of action on climate change.

Members from Dorchester, Weymouth, Portland and Bridport will be holding a 'Ceremony of Nothing' in Dorchester on Sunday to mark 'two years of inaction' on the climate and ecological crisis.

It will start with a gathering in the Borough Gardens from 11am before a march to South Walks House where a two minutes’ silence will be held at 12noon.

This will be followed by the 'Ceremony of Nothing' and more before they relocate to Dorchester Vegan Market at Maumbury Rings for lunch.

Organisers have encouraged attendees to bring their own representation of ‘nothing’, or come empty handed, as well as ideas for what the council should have done in the last two years and can do in the next 12 months.

Earlier this year Dorset Council was succesful in winning a grant of £19 million to help reduce its carbon footprint.

The money will be used to update and upgrade council properties, switching away from fossil fuels and improving energy efficiency.

All works under this grant must be completed and commissioned by September 2021.
