A STRANDED vehicle was rescued from flood water on a country road after the county was hit by wet weather over the weekend.

Firefighters from Bridport Fire Station and Beaminster Fire Station were called at 5.17pm on Sunday to a report of a vehicle trapped in flood water in Knights in the Bottom in Hooke, near Beaminster.

The driver had already left the car by the time firefighters arrived. Fire crews were able to collect the motorist's belongings before moving the vehicle out of the flood water.

A photo taken by Bridport Fire Station showed the vehicle was deep in the water and as crews attempted to recover the stranded car.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "A wading team from Bridport along with Beaminster Fire Station were mobilised to a vehicle stuck in flood water at Knights in the Bottom near Hooke on Sunday afternoon.

"The owner had self rescued. Crews collected their belongings and moved the car to enable recovery.

"If you come across flood water it's always best to find an alternative route rather than risk entering and putting yourself, others and your property at risk."
