A MOTORCYCLIST was four times over the drink drive limit when he fell onto a car in traffic.

Stuart Kirlew, aged 35, was riding a Honda motorcycle waiting in traffic when he suddenly struck a nearby vehicle and fell to the ground Radipole Lane near Five Ways Centre, Weymouth on Saturday, May 1.

Prosecuting, Andrew Newman, told Weymouth Magistrates' Court: “The attending police officers found a male sat by the road.

“They spoke to the owner of the other vehicle and explained that the biker, whilst he was standing in traffic, fell over and hit his helmet onto the car.

“The driver explained that he could smell a strong smell of alcohol.”

Mr Newman added that Kirlew was ‘so unsteady on his feet that when he attempted to stand, he was back on the floor’.

Kirlew gave a breathalyser test, which gave a reading of 150 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Kirlew, of Swaffield Gardens, Weymouth, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle when over the drink drive limit.

Mitigating, Lee Christmas, noted that he has ‘co-operated with police’ and entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity.

The case was adjourned until Thursday, June 17 to allow a pre-sentence report to be created. Kirlew was issued an interim disqualification from driving.
