ANIMAL right protestors have been putting stickers up at McDonald's in Weymouth amid a day of national blockades at the fast food chain.

Animal Rebellion, sister organisation of Extinction Rebellion, has put blockades at four of the McDonald's distribution centres, in a move that protectors say will impact roughly 1,300 restaurants.

The group is demanding McDonald’s commit to becoming fully plant-based by 2025.

This morning, activists put stickers up in the Weymouth restaurant 'to inform customers what their 'unhappy meals' were funding', which included phrases such as 'this meal now costs the earth'.

On the Extinction Rebellion Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland Facebook page, a spokesman wrote: "Solidarity with our sister movement Animal Rebellion who this morning have completely blocked all four McDonald's distribution centres.

"The action was aimed at calling out the animal agriculture industry for its part in the global climate crisis.

"This morning we stickered Mcdonalds Weymouth to inform customers what their ‘unhappy meals’ were funding."

James Ozden, a spokesman for the Animal Rebellion, said the action is aimed at calling out the animal agriculture industry for its part in the global climate crisis.

He said: “The meat and dairy industry is destroying our planet: causing huge amounts of rainforest deforestation, emitting immense quantities of greenhouse gases and killing billions of animals each year.

“The only sustainable and realistic way to feed ten billion people is with a plant-based food system. Organic, free-range and ‘sustainable’ animal-based options simply aren’t good enough.”

The fast food chain has apologised to its customers. A McDonald’s spokesman said: “Our distribution centres are currently facing disruption.

“We are assessing the impact on deliveries to our restaurants and to menu items.

“We apologise to our customers for any disappointment caused.”
