A POLICE cordon is currently in place on Weymouth Town Bridge this evening (Saturday, May 22).

Before 8pm, five police vehicles were parked in the area, along with two ambulance vehicles and a South West Police Forensics vehicle.

A witness said blood could be seen on the pedestrian path, with a police cordon around the footpath and a section of the path on Trinity Street.

A witness told Dorset Echo: "I was walking into town when I came across the police presence and some paramedics on the Town Bridge.

"It wasn't clear what had happened and police were unable to say, but there was clearly blood on the bridge's footpath.

"I hope everyone is okay."

Multiple police officers are in the area carrying out investigations and enquires into what has happened.

The emergency service presence is causing some congestion and traffic delays in the area, with PCSO directing motorists around the police cordon.

Dorset Police has been approached for a comment.
