EMERGENCY SERVICES were called near an historic Weymouth landmark to a concern for welfare.

Police officers were called Old Castle Road near Sandsfoot Castle at 6.41pm on Sunday evening (May 23) following a report of a concern for welfare of a woman.

Officers attended the scene and the woman was found and taken to safety.

Wyke Coastguard and Portland Bill Coastguard were also called to attend before 7pm, but were 'stood down on route as the incident had been resolved'.

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 6.41pm on Sunday, May 23 raising concern for the welfare of a woman in the area of Old Castle Road in Weymouth.

"Officers attended and the woman was located at around 7.05pm."

A spokesman for Portland Bill Coastguard said: "Team tasked by Solent Coastguard to assist our colleagues Wyke Coastguard CRT and Weymouth and Portland Police with a incident in the Weymouth area.

"The team was stood down on route as the incident had been resolved."
