A HOME in North Dorset sold for just £130,000 at an online auction.

Pink Cottage, based in Rixon, Sturminster Newton, was on the market for the first time in more than 40 years by auctioneers Symonds and Sampson.

The cottage has a sitting room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and cloakroom on its ground floor with two bedrooms on its first floor and a third room that can be turned into another bedroom or an office.

The end-of-terrace property was described as 'offering buyers a rare chance to renovate a cottage in Sturminster Newton' and has not been occupied for four years and requires renovation and modernisation.

With a guide price of £100,000, the rural property attracted some attention from online bidders before being sold for £130,000. In comparison, the average house value in the area is £332,480.

Following the auction, auctioneer Mark Lewis said: "It was a perfect storm of having the right lots at the right time, and everybody now seems to be well versed with the livestream system.

"We were delighted to welcome Graham Barton of Homes under the Hammer fame to the auction. He joins the firm bringing great experience and will be running our Devon and Cornwall auctions in the future.

"At its peak, over 600 people were viewing the livestream, with huge interest in the variety of lots and seeing over 4,500 legal documents downloaded prior to the sale."
