WEYMOUTH lifeboats were launched to reports of a boat run aground.

Solent Coastguard requested that both Weymouth RNLI lifeboats be launched on Sunday to reports of a fishing vessel with three persons onboard on the rocks of Portland Harbour.

A spokesman for Wyymouth Lifeboat said: "The inshore lifeboat launched at 1.45pm and proceeded to Portland Harbour.

"However, when the all-weather lifeboat launched a few minutes later at 1.51pm the Coastguard immediately diverted it to Lulworth Cove following reports of two divers in difficulty.

"The inshore lifeboat was on scene at Portland Harbour at 1.55pm only to find that the Portland Harbourmaster RIB had already pulled the stranded fishing vessel off the rocks and was towing it to Portland Marina.

"The Inshore lifeboat escorted them into the marina just to be on the safe side."
