A MAN has been arrested following an alleged assault to a man in his 60s on Portland.

On Saturday morning, police said a man in his 60s was taken to hospital after he was allegedly thrown into the window of The Paper Shop and onto the floor outside the shop in Fortuneswell.

The police confirmed a 40-year-old man has been arrested following the alleged assault.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on Portland.

"It was reported that at around 10.30am on Saturday, May 29 a man aged in his 60s was assaulted outside The Paper Shop on Fortuneswell.

"The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

"Following enquiries by detectives from Weymouth CID, a 40-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

"He has been released under investigation as detectives carry out further enquiries.

"Officers are continuing to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information who has not already spoken to police to come forward."
