A WOMAN grew a cannabis plant to help treat her health problems, Weymouth Magistrates' Court heard.

Kirsty Flann, aged 30, had her property searched by police on November 17, 2020 when two plants, suspected to be cannabis, were discovered by officers.

Flann stated that one of the plants was cannabis, but the other was not. Cannabis was also found in a cupboard as well as cannabis seeds and some herbal cannabis.

Prosecuting, Richard Oakley, explained that officers visited her address to investigate another matter.

He said: “The leaves appeared to have been stripped and the plants and cannabis seeds were seized.

“There was a coffee jar with some herbal cannabis in her dress. It is consistent with personal use.

“She admitted she is a regular cannabis smoker for personal use to help her health problems. She admitted to growing the plant for personal use in order to get her through Christmas.”

Flann of Bradford Road, Weymouth, pleaded guilty to cultivate a cannabis plant at her address.

Mitigating, Lee Christmas, added Flann 'explained that it was cheaper to grow her own' and apologised.

Chairman of Magistrates, Callum Bremner, accepted the cannabis plant was grown for personal use and ordered Flann to pay a £80 fine, £60 in court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
