PORTLAND residents can get free entry into their town's museum.

Portland Museum, based on Wakeham in the Easton area of the Isle, reopened last month as part of the Government's roadmap out of coronavirus restrictions.

Portland Town Council has launched a collaboration with Portland Museum after the local authority provided funding to enable residents with a DT5 postcode free entry.

Eligible residents simply need to provide a proof of address upon entry and will be allowed in free of charge. The free entry offer however does not apply to children's/family events or activities.

Manager of the museum, Lucy Watkins, said “We're over the moon to receive this funding and looking forward to receiving islanders old and new into the museum.”

A spokeswoman for the museum said accessibility for wheelchair users has been improved this year, with the maritime collection having been moved from the top of one of the old cottages to the ground floor gallery.

The museum houses a fascinating collection that reflects the history and people of this exceptional island community. More information can be found on the website: www.portlandmuseum.co.uk
