ANOTHER car meet is set to take place in Weymouth this evening after ‘numerous cars were stopped’ by police last night at two car meets.

Local police officers, as well as officers from Devon and Cornwall Police and traffic officers, monitored planned events at Chesil car park along the Portland Beach Road and Mount Pleasant Park & Ride in Weymouth on Saturday evening (June 5).

Photos and video shared on social media appeared to show drivers performing donuts and drifting around a car park.

Weymouth and Portland Police say they are aware of another organised car meet which is planned to take place in the Weymouth area again on Sunday evening (June 6).

Police officers will be on patrol again this evening and say they will be ‘doing everything we can with the resources we have available to manage the situation.’

They add that they would like any car enthusiasts to ‘drive in a manner which is expected of careful and competent drivers’ and will speak to any offending motorists.

Police officers are also aware of the impact of anti-social behaviour and loud noises of vehicles can have on communities and are keen to address it.

Numerous cars were stopped and the occupants were spoken to by police officers and Traffic Offence Reports were issued to a number of drivers.

A vehicle was also seized by police officers.

A spokesman for Weymouth and Portland Police added: “There were a number of other vehicles identified as being problematic which weren’t able to be stopped and dealt with last night due to the dynamic situation officers were faced with.

“We will however be looking to deal with those found committing offences retrospectively. Our enquires will include reviewing CCTV footage from around the town.
