AN ENVIRONMENTALLY friendly soil enricher made in Dorset is being stocked by the UK’s biggest garden centre chain.

Dobbies Garden Centres – which has 71 sites including one at Galton in Dorset – is stocking Bloomin Amazing.

The organic product comes from Bloomin Amazing’s renewable energy plant in Poundbury.

It is a no-dig, peat-free mulch, easy feed and soil conditioner. It is made from a by-product of the UK’s first commercial green gas generating plant.

Nick Finding, managing director at Bloomin Amazing, said: “Enquiries from local gardeners for our sustainable and peat-free soil improver are growing rapidly, so it’s great news that they will now be able to buy Bloomin Amazing in Dobbies’ Galton store, in addition to all Dobbies stores across the UK.

“We are extremely proud of our sustainability credentials and it’s good to be partnering with an organisation like Dobbies who clearly share our values.”

Dorset Council publishes reports on climate emergency

Dobbies has welcomed proposed deadlines from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Horticultural Trades Association for retailers to go peat-free.

It launched a campaign using the hashtag #sustainabledobbies during National Gardening Week and has pledged to reduce the use of peat in its product range.

It says it is on track with a commitment to be 90 per cent peat-free in 2021 and 100 per cent in 2022 in relation to bagged compost. It has worked with nursery suppliers on a roadmap for an annual reduction in peat use for growing plants.
