Concerns for a kite surfer in difficulty at sea prompted an emergency call.
Wyke Regis Coastguard Rescue Team and local RNLI lifeguards responded to the incident at Overcombe, Weymouth, early yesterday evening.
By the time they got there the surfer was getting ashore east of Redcliff Point.
A spokesman for the coastguard team said: "Lifeguards made contact with him, established he was uninjured and alone before offering him a speedy lift back to Overcombe.
"He declined the offer so his walk along the rocky undercliff was shadowed by the lifeguards and us until he reached his starting point."
