A visit from a VIP and a garden party were among the events organised to celebrate carers.

It came as residents and staff at Trinity Manor care home in Sherborne marked National Carers’ Week. Residents wanted to thank all the staff at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of those living in their care – especially during the pandemic.

Carers Week is an annual event to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make to our residents, families and communities throughout the UK.

As part of the celebrations at Trinity Manor, the Mayor of Sherborne Anne Hall visited for afternoon tea, and thanked staff for all of their efforts, especially after the difficult year that they have had with lockdown.

Cllr Hall said: "It was lovely to be asked to visit Trinity Manor and meet with the team. It was an honour to recognise the carers that work so tirelessly there with a presentation of certificate and chocolates."

Later in the week staff were treated to an outdoor garden party, with drinks, delicious food and garden games, including a mini golf tournament.

Home manager Sohail Daniel said: “It was so wonderful to be able to celebrate Carers Week and to properly thank our fantastic carers with a summer party in our garden this year. It really does feel like life is getting back to normal now that we can have events and entertainment again. Everyone had such a fantastic day and to be able to host our town mayor was truly an honour and I felt a great sense of pride as she handed them their special treats and cards.

"We are so immensely thankful to our care team, who have proved to be the true backbone of our home, they are amazing."
