A ROAD through a suburb of Weymouth is currently closed due to a fallen tree.

The B3159 Church Street, which runs through Upwey, has been closed since Sunday evening (June 13) after a large part of a tree fell onto the road.

Police officers set up a road closure after the entrance for Upwey House and only residents are allowed to enter the road.

Visiting the scene, it appears a large branch had fallen onto the road and has caused some damage to a stone wall along the road.

W Ronald Landscaping LTD and Arron Giffen Tree Surgeon have both worked at the scene on Monday morning (June 14) to cut the tree into smaller pieces as well as use a wood chipper to cut the smaller branches.

An update from Travel Dorset reads: "Church Street both ways closed due to fallen tree from Elwell Street to Friar Waddon Road."

Despite the road closure and signage, at least two cyclists attempted to bypass the blocked road as well as a van.
