A MAN sent hundreds of ‘abusive’ text messages to another man, a court heard.

Philip Andrew Renahan, aged 60, of The Gavel in Sturminster Newton, recently appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court.

He is charged that between April 12, 2020 and April 18, 2020, he pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of a man, in which he sent 300 text messages to the victim.

Court registers noted that the majority of the text messages were of ‘an abusive nature’ and amounted to the harassment of the victim.

Renahan previously pleaded not guilty to the charge but changed his plea to guilty in his court appearance.

Magistrates issued Renahan a 12-month restraining order to not directly or indirectly contact the victim. Renahan was also ordered to pay a £320 fine, £200 in court costs and £32 victim surcharge.
