A LACK of consultation over closures around Weymouth Harbour for the football screening and half-marathon has been criticised.

Resident Susan Boyd said the temporary closures, which effected the town bridge and Custom House Quay, were ‘sprung upon’ harbour users at the last minute without any consultation.

“Notices on the web pages a few days in advance is simply not adequate,” said Mrs Boyd in a letter to the joint harbours committee.

Council operations director Karyn Punchard says that while the applications had been made for the closures ‘some weeks’ in advance the applications for the June 13 closures the information needed had not reached a safety advisory group until late in May, leading to a delay.

She said that a protocol would now be put in place so that consultations could take place in advance of decisions being made and would include direct emails to those affected by any future road closures.

Similar measures will be also be put in place for council-run harbours at West Bay and Lyme Regis.
