Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson was seen filming a new Netflix adaptation of Persuasion in Lyme Regis.

A production crew descended upon Lyme Regis harbour and the Cobb to film the new feature length film of Jane Austen's 1817 classic.

The area adjacent to the Marine Aquarium on the Cobb was closed off to the public as filming continued throughout the day.

Johnson plays Anne Elliot, the heroine in Persuasion and was seen in period attire filming with actor Cosmo Jarvis. Her character in the film dramatically slips from the Cobb.

Acclaimed theatre director Carrie Cracknell is making her feature directorial debut for the film, which is due to be released in 2022.

During the shooting of the scenes in Lyme Regis, horse drawn carriages were brought onto the grade one listed Cobb, which was made famous by the film The French Lieutenant's Woman.

Lyme Regis has been no stranger to film crews recently, with Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan causing a stir in 2019 when they filmed scenes from Ammonite in the town. The critically acclaimed movie was based upon the life of Lyme fossil hunter Mary Anning.
