SHAFTESBURY Town Council is to hold a public information session towards the end of the month to discuss future plans for community facilities at Mampitts Square.

It hopes to form a local advisory group to guide any development on the site once it has been formally handed over to the town by Persimmon homes.

The town council says it hopes to explore the current and future needs of residents before any firm decisions are made about the site.

Its information event is planned for Tuesday June 29th at 6PM at the Town Hall with those who wish to attend asked to register to secure your place; https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/we-need-you-mampitts-square-shaping[1]community-facilities-tickets-159809329005

A town council statement reads: “This information session will provide background to the project and the process involved for residents to register their interest in becoming a member of the Advisory Committee of STC. The committee will be formed of local people; those passionate about Shaftesbury who will support the town council with the development of a community-led project that meets the aspirations of the East of Shaftesbury residents.”

The meeting will outline the role of the advisory committee and its responsibilities will be explained.

Due to the social distancing restrictions the event is limited to 30 people. A second event will be scheduled in the event of more people wanting to take part in the process.

Cllr Piers Brown, the lead member for the Mampitts Square Community facilities project said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone with passion for the future of the town to find out how we can work together on this exciting project. I am looking forward to putting the community in the driving seat and working with them, to create a facility, designed by the community and for the community”.
