THE annual ‘Last Watch’ ceremony, held each year on the Monday immediately after veterans flag raising, heralding ‘Veterans Awareness Week’, had to be cancelled, due to the original June 21st ‘Freedom Day’ being put back to July 19.
This effectively restricted indoor entertainment, and close social contact restricting the number of people taking part, and no standing at the bar.
This annual event takes place at the Royal Oak, public house on the quay. Obviously it did not take place in 2020, for obvious reasons.
It would have gone ahead this year, up until the time of the Prime Minister’s announcement. Sadly it was pipped at the post, by the extension of Government policy to July 19.
