Thank you for placing my photograph on the cover of Wednesday’s Echo. It shows me watching the final departure of the Condor ferry.

I have to tell you that I was responsible for persuading Condor to leave Poole in 1988.

I brought Mr David Norman, managing director of Condor Ferries, and his father down to Weymouth in my car and introduced them to our Chief Executive Mr Norman and our Borough Treasurer.

After touring the ferry terminal a luncheon was served in the Pavilion. This initial meeting went very well before I returned our guests back to rejoin Condor 6 in Poole.

Three weeks later the Condor 6 arrived in Weymouth to start the ferry service with both senior Normans in great enthusiastic form.
