EMERGENCY services were called after a man suffered an injury whilst out walking on Portland's coastal paths.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at Westcliff, just south of Blacknor Fort yesterday.

A spokesman for Weymouth & Portland Police said: "(The man) was not seriously hurt and had slipped whilst walking and needed help to get to an ambulance.

"I would like to remind people that even though it is July, the coastal paths are very wet and care should be taken."

Emergency services spent a lot of time on the island yesterday.

In a separate incident, a man suffered a suspected head injury and had to be airlifted to hospital.

Meanwhile, a 'major and intensive' search of Portland Harbour took place after concerns for a kayaker and small child were reported to coastguards.
