COASTAL Cheese and Waikiki played out a thrilling 40-40 draw in South & West Dorset League Division One.

Throughout the court, Coastal’s defensive effort was strong from the start, with even GA Carla Marper coming up with intercepts.

Both teams’ shooters maintained high levels of accuracy, making this a very even first quarter.

Although Waikiki defence increased the pressure in the second quarter, the Coastal attackers showed great patience, continued to work the ball in and they pushed out to a slim three-goal lead at half time.

Waikiki came out strongly at the start of the second half, first drawing the scores level then taking the lead.

Coastal made some tactical team changes going into the final quarter and, after some exciting, frantic end-to-end play in the final few minutes, the game ended in a draw.

EXPERT CATERING 44

EXPERT dominated the first half of this game against Corfe Crusaders, winning the Premier Division contest 44-32.

Expert put lots of pressure on in defence which affected Corfe’s shooting accuracy. In attack, there were some excellent feeds into their shooters, which despite their efforts, the Corfe defence could not get their hands on.

Expert led by a convincing 22 goals at half-time. Corfe made several defensive changes going into the second half, moving Tasha Reed into GD and Nicola Marsh out to WD.

This had an immediate impact and Corfe turned over more ball, which their shooters now converted.

Expert lifted their intensity in the final quarter and began to put the pressure on again, however the Corfe attackers held their nerve and worked the ball in patiently to shooting opportunities. However, Expert’s strong start meant they held onto the lead and won the game.

GUNGHO MARKETING 54

BUGLERS 27

GUNGHO Marketing continued their good form with a handsome 54-27 victory over Buglers in the Premier Division.

Gungho started this game working together well. Their GD Millie Thompson came out with clean intercepts which shooters Olivia Conning and Amelie Coben converted, and the team took an early lead.

In the second quarter, Buglers worked the ball around their attacking third well and GA Kat Frampton put in some lovely shots, which kept them just in touch.

An injury forced Gungho into making some team changes going into the second half, which Buglers capitalised on at first, with GK Stacie Sollis taking some great interceptions.

Gungho settled, found their rhythm again in the final quarter and began to really put their foot down, capitalising on every opportunity and pushing out their lead. They ultimately took a convincing win.

EXE TRAINING 32

PORTLAND PIRATES 33

PORTLAND Pirates edged this Division Two thriller 33-32 over Exe Training.

This close game began evenly, until Exe’s attack began to figure out Portland’s defence.

Exe WA Brooke Luxton provided her shooters with some excellent balls into the circle and they took the lead at quarter time.

While Exe’s attack used this strong form after the break, the second quarter went goal for goal thanks to Portland’s fighting spirit, especially from C Tori Coltart.

Both attacking units used good movement and accurate passing to work around their opposition’s determined defending in the third quarter, and the score remained close.

Portland came out in the final quarter strong and focussed. They made some tactical changes at quarter time, including moving Holly Hansford to C, who rewarded them with powerful interceptions and accurate feeds to their shooters.

Portland fought their way back from five goals down to take the win by only one goal.
