A HARVESTER was 'completely destroyed' in a fire.
At around 8pm yesterday evening, fire crews were alerted to reports of a large forage harvester vehicle on fire in a field off Nyland Lane, near Gillingham.
Crews from Gillingham and Shaftesbury fire stations went to the scene, along with a water carrier from Yeovil Fire Station.
Firefighters used two hose reel jets, two breathing kits and a water shuttle to extinguish the flames. The forage harvester was completely destroyed.
A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "Just after 8pm, Fire Control received several calls reporting a large forage harvester vehicle alight in a field off Nyland Lane, Nyland.
"Fire engines from Gillingham Fire Station and Shaftesbury Fire Station attended, along with a specialist water carrier from Yeovil Fire Station in Devon and Somerset.
"The fire crews used two hose reels, two breathing apparatus and one of the pumps being used as a water shuttle to extinguish the vehicle fire, and an area of grass surrounding it.
"Unfortunately the forage harvester was completely destroyed by fire.
"The incident was under control by 8.41pm."
