WEYMOUTH tackle their first home pre-season friendly this summer when Exeter City visit the Bob Lucas Stadium tonight (7.30pm).

Brian Stock’s Terras have so far played Bournemouth in a behind closed doors friendly and beaten ninth-tier Portland United and Bridgwater United 6-0 and 5-2 respectively.

Weymouth now host League Two side Exeter City in a repeat of the meeting between the sides last season.

On that occasion, former Dorchester loanee Ben Seymour opening the scoring before a last-ditch equaliser from Calvin Brooks.

In Weymouth’s fourth pre-season test, Stock is now looking to see signs of a stronger mentality within his squad.

He told Echosport: “Bournemouth was probably a bit too early for us but we managed to gain a high level of fitness out of that.

“We’ve followed it up with Portland and Bridgwater, two games where we can mix and match 45 minutes for every player.

“We now look to Exeter where we might look to try and get some minutes into players we feel need it.

“But the whole pre-season so far I’m really pleased with. There’s a really good vibe within the group.”

Stock is also keen to see improved care in possession after the Bridgwater clash.

He said: “The demand on the players will be high intensity and work rate, but that’s not to sacrifice quality on the ball.

“We need to make sure we remain calm in possession and not force things, stick to the game plan.

“Exeter’s going to be a very tough test, they’ve been a good side in the league for a number of years now.

“They’ve prioritised bringing through the youth, they’ve got a good setup. It’s going to be a challenge for us but it’s one we want.”

Stock is looking to foster a “relentless” mindset in his players.

“It’s something I’ve said to the players that we need to understand – everything is relentless,” he said.

“Whether we are training, playing games, the mentality has to remain the same regardless of the opposition.

“(Bridgwater) was a good test to hammer home the fact that we might come up against teams in the cup or whoever it might be where we’re expected to win a game of football.

“We need to make sure whether it’s against top of the league or bottom we have to remain focused and that mentality is so important.”

Weymouth’s neighbours Portland United host AFC Totton at the Camp & Satherley Stadium in their latest friendly tonight (7.45pm).
