A MAN has been arrested and at least one person has been taken to hospital following a crash on the A35.

The A35 was closed for investigation work due to the one vehicle incident between Wareham Road, Morden, and B3075 Quarr Hill, Lytchett Minster in the early hours this morning.

The road was closed both ways all morning and was reopened at around 3pm.

One person has been taken to hospital but Dorset Police are unable to provide information about the extent of their injuries at this time.

The car crashed into a hedge and an electricity pole.

The single-vehicle crash was reported at 3.51am and police have said there is damage to cables – a telegraph pole and an electric post have been affected.

Fire services were also in attendance.

A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "Two crews from Poole were called to a road traffic collision on Dorchester Road, Lytchett Minster at 4.03am this morning.

"A single car had collided with a hedge and an electricity pole – our stop came at 4.27am after our crews made the scene safe and left the casualty in the care of police and ambulance."

Travel Dorset said the telephone pole has been knocked down

A spokesman for Purbeck Police said: "The A35 will be closed between the junction for Bulbury Woods Golf Course and Morden Park Corner for most of today.

"This is due to urgent work to a fallen cable and fallen tree, following an overnight accident. Please avoid the area, especially if you're in a large vehicle. We'll let you know when it re-opens."

There is also liquid on the road that needs clearing.

Traffic was queuing on Morden Road and up through Sandford on the A351 as people went around the closure.

Traffic has since returned to normal.
