PHOTOS show armed police outside a property in a residential area after two people were ‘assaulted by a man’.

Dorset Police was called at 7.35am on Friday morning (July 23) to reports of a ‘disturbance’ on Howard Close in the Wyke Regis area of Weymouth.

It was reported that two people were allegedly assaulted by a man, but did not sustain any serious injuries.

Police officers, including armed officers, have surrounded a property following reports of a man armed with a knife and hammer. No one else is inside the property, police say.

Photos from the scene, which can be seen above, show Howard Close cordoned off with a number of police vehicles within the cordon.

Officers have been at the scene for at least three hours as they attempt to engage with the man in a bid to ‘resolve the incident safely’.

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police received a report at 7.35am on Friday, July 23 of a disturbance on Howard Close in Weymouth.

“Two people were reportedly assaulted by a man. They did not sustain any serious injuries.

“It is reported that the man – who is in possession of a knife and hammer – is inside a property. There is nobody else inside the address.

“Officers are currently at the scene and are engaging with the man to resolve the incident safely.”
