A MAJOR operation was launched at Man O' War Beach to help a casualty with a suspected broken ankle - who was later hospitalised.

Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team along with Kimmeridge Coastguard, Wyke Coastguard and an ambulance crew were called to the tourist hotspot in Lulworth yesterday afternoon.

Lulworth Rangers were also on hand to provide a clear passage for coastguard crews to help the casualty, who was found on the steep steps leading to Man O' War Beach.

A spokesman from Lulworth Coastguard said: "With Wyke Coastguard and Kimmeridge Coastguard, we were tasked with assisting a casualty with a suspected broken ankle on the steps leading to Man O’ War Beach.

"The casualty was stretchered to the top of the steps, passing the stretcher from team to team in stages up a very steep incline.

"Lulworth Rangers assisted in keeping a clear passage for the stretcher teams during recovery.

"The casualty was treated by ambulance personnel before being taken to Dorset County Hospital."
