A MAN armed with a knife assaulted a shopkeeper and demanded he hand over money.

Police said the man entered Broadwey Village Stores, in Upwey, and threatened the shopkeeper. They said he then assaulted him and made demands for money.

The victim reportedly knocked the knife out of the man’s hand before he left the premises empty handed.

The attempted robbery took place at 1.05pm on Saturday, July 24.

Officers attended and a 24-year-old man from Frome in Somerset was arrested nearby. He was subsequently charged with attempted robbery, criminal damage and possessing a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place and was due to appear at Poole Magistrates Court today.
