Oh please, our council comes up with some loopy ideas from time to time but city status?

READ MORE: 'Bid for Dorchester to get city status criticised'

At least we are getting an insight as to what our council does in their meetings. I would have thought there are many important issues that should be on their agenda, surely a name change is not going to do it?

Please concentrate on making our town a nicer place to live in.

We need to get our main shopping street revitalised - look at Bridport, Sherborne and Wimborne Minster, all a pleasure to visit, and not the county town.

The volume of traffic needs to be seriously discussed and sorted making a visit to our town more of a pleasure. Let’s start there, but come on council you know the priorities. Too many to discuss here.

What's most important for improving Dorchester? We need our retail shops back! There is very little choice of shops, dorchester use to be a great shopping experience now its embarrassing. More activities More younger children, like a play cafe, or a soft play area, its hard knowing that these facilities, including the shops, are only available in further towns, which are not always easy to get to, give dorchester some life back and show younger people that it is a thriving place to be

What's most important for improving Dorchester?Reduce business rates and attempt to control the rent increases of the smaller retail shops in the town centre long term to inspire the confidence and diversity of individual traders back into the empty shops and recreate a real shopping experience for both residents and visitors. The greatest loss to the whole area has been the Tourist Information Centre since it left its prominent position in Trinity Street! Expose the extensive remains of Roman Baths currently covered in sand under Wollaston Field car park to create a new visitor attraction complimentary to the Roman Town House at Colliton Park.
